Dry Skin Care Tips and Tricks
Few of us are blessed with perfect skin; in fact the majority must turn to dry skin care treatments to keep face and body looking their best.
Normal skin? There are very few people who could be considered to have ‘normal skin’. The rest of us suffer from at least a few dry patches or oily patches.
Cities, particularly large metropolitan areas, are notorious for producing a number of toxins and pollutants that dry out urban dwellers’ skin. Anyone who works in an office or does a lot of traveling by airplane is also prone to skin dehydration. Sun damage, illness, stress – any of these can contribute to the condition, as well, and necessitate dry skin care.
While you may not be able to physically distance yourself from the factors that contribute to dry skin, consider some of these tips and tricks to help keep your body moisturized.
Proper Cleansing
Start with a gentle cleansing of your skin in warm, not hot, water. Use a liquid body wash for dry skin care since it tends to be less dehydrating than bar soap.
Exfoliating twice a week is something that helps to get rid of dead skin cells that cause the appearance of flaky skin. Body skin care products are available that both cleanse, and gently slough off the top layer of dry skin. Olive oil or honey combined with salt or sugar makes for a good, moisturizing scrub. Shaving is another way to exfoliate skin.
After the shower or bath, be gentle as you towel dry. Excessive rubbing can exacerbate the problem.
Dry Skin Moisturizer
Dry skin care continues with a good moisturizer. There are many different formulations to choose from. Some are excellent at combating the signs of aging, others include a sunless tanning formula, and then there are those that help maintain skin tone and texture with such ingredients as salicylic or alpha-hydroxyl.
No matter what type of dry skin lotion you choose, though, ensure that it contains sunscreen. Keeping your skin protected from the harmful rays of the sun is one of the best things you can do for it.
Facial Skin
If you are prone to dry facial skin, it is crying out for moisture. Drink plenty of water every day to hydrate from the inside, and use a good, oil-based cream formulated specifically for facial skin care; it will form a layer to protect your skin from the elements.
Dry Skin Treatment products that are designated for use on other areas of the body are too heavy for the delicate tissues on your face. Skip a toner after cleansing, as it will strip moisture.
Use a facial mask once a week. There are many good ones that contain moisture-rich avocado oil or other natural moisturizers.
Include some of these dry skin care tips in your daily routine and you will soon see a real difference in the appearance of your face and body.
