Anti Aging Skin Care: Three New Treatments

Is there anyone who is not interested in anti aging skin care? Certainly there are few people who are not worried about their appearance as they grow older. If you’re not worried about it today, there will likely come a day that this becomes an issue for you. The good news is that there are some fantastic new skin care products on the market that help combat the problems associated with aging so that you can slow down or in some cases turn back the clock.

Antioxidants

One of the oldest forms of aging skin care is now one of the top ingredients in a variety of anti aging skin care treatments: antioxidants. You may have heard of these nutrients in regards to overall health and well-being, but did you know that they are also quite successful in destroying free radicals?

Free radicals refer to molecules that reduce the amount of collagen in the skin. They are caused by overexposure to pollution and the harmful rays of the sun.

Antioxidants neutralize and disarm free radicals before they have the chance to damage the skin. Vitamins C and E, coffee berry, and CoQ10 are particularly effective.

Coffee berry, derived from the same plant that fuels your morning cup, is considered to be the strongest of the group at providing anti aging skin care. It reduces wrinkles and fine lines. Look for this ingredient in any anti wrinkle skin care cosmeceutical to dramatically improve the appearance of your facial skin.

Peptides

Another new breakthrough in anti wrinkle products are peptides. These are small proteins that work by stimulating the skin’s collagen production. Studies on the peptide formulation acetyl hexapeptide-3, or Argireline, show that an effect much like Botox is achieved through the release of neurotransmitters to prevent wrinkles from forming in facial muscles. Newer peptides are also being examined for their ability to stimulate the growth of skin cells.

As skin firming creams evolve, look for more treatments that contain a variety of peptides which can stimulate both collagen and new skin cell production.

Vitamin A

Most often associated with acne skin care treatments, Vitamin A is proving to be beneficial at reducing wrinkles as a product in many newer skin care lines. Retinoids, a derivative of Vitamin A, seem to increase the production of collagen while also preventing its breakdown.

In fact, in a recent study, a marked reduction of wrinkles in subjects’ facial skin was achieved by applying a topical ointment three times a week over a 24-week period. The average age of the study subjects was in their late eighties! Shocked?

Some anti aging skin care products indicate the inclusion of retinoids by referring to the ingredient as retinol. Some people will have a reaction to Vitamin A derivatives that can appear as redness or irritation. It is best to start using these products sparingly, then gradually build up to more frequent treatments. If side effects persist consider sensitive skin care products.

Take heart that a whole new cadre of effective anti aging skin care products are on the market, or soon will be. It is never too late to begin reversing the signs of aging.
